Sign up for chicken workshops and more

Learn how to raise chickens in your backyard, start seeds indoors and select plants that complement others in your garden. The Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture is offering these workshops and more beginning in March. To learn more, visit: columbiaurbanag.org/resources/workshops

The volunteers who comprise this dedicated group are doing some wonderful projects in Columbia. They are helping to develop a local food system by participating in its many interrelated and complex components--compost, gardens, education, markets, commerce, policy, transportation, job creation and city planning.

If you have property in Columbia that you would like to use for urban agriculture, please contact them. They also can help you manage or expand your existing garden, install a new one for you, help you improve your compost system or build you a new one.

In addition, they will come to your school to help develop garden-related activities for students.

Of course, they need our support to keep these programs going, so please donate your time, money or gardening items to them whenever you can. As of today, their wish list includes the following:
  • Drip Irrigation Tape and Hardware
  • Plumbing Service to Install Spigots
